ARTIST STATEMENT

I create images through different ways of inspiration from recreating my own dreams, using my imagination whether to tell a story or to enjoy the process of art through being spontaneous. I will often wake up in the night to sketch down the clear visions from my dreams as I can sometimes forget by the morning what I have dreamt about. For me to create art is to step into another world, my world.

One particular style that I work in is based on my alter ego, this is inspired by wanting to be somebody else, taking elements from different people to create new characters, I call these characters my alter ego people. The images are painted in acrylic on canvas or drawn onto paper. I will use photographs from magazines of people or I will ask models to pose for me allowing me to photograph and then print the images allowing me to play about with compositions and scales before producing the final artwork in paint or as a drawing. This is the fun part for me as you never know what to expect and you can see the characters come to life through the paintings and drawings.

I purposefully give the characters incorrect scales to throw your eye out, and create an interest within the composition but in the hope the viewer will take the time to look at the image as a whole and to appreciate the story and the time that has been put into each of the pieces.
