ABOUT

Maddie is a self-taught artist and full-time writer. In 2020, she revisited her art journey after setting it aside for 8 years to grow her writing career. While nature is her main source of inspiration, she also relies on words, song lyrics, and poetry to guide the look and feel of her visual work. She loves how the painting and writing processes both support and contrast with one another and finds switching between the two a great remedy for creative block. She works primarily in acrylics but enjoys sketching in ink and watercolor. Her current collection of paintings is centered on western landscapes from her travels, featuring scenes from Arizona, Colorado, and Big Sur. She grew up just outside Philadelphia and now works out of her home in the Pennslyvania countryside.

ARTIST STATEMENT

In nature, beauty is created through tension. Thunderstorms give way to golden sunsets. Monsoons bring vibrance to desert flora. Turbulent waves carve unique shapes into coastal cliffs. I am moved by nature’s ebb and flow between darkness and light, how it mirrors our own emotions and cyclical rhythms. How it gently tugs at our ancestral intuition. Spending time in nature, for me, is a reminder that beauty persists.

I paint natural scenes to learn how to disappear within them. To quiet my critical internal chatter. To immerse myself in the tension of the creative process, trusting I’ll find beauty on the other side. The aim of my work is to express that journey. I hope my paintings can move viewers to create in the same way nature does for me.
