Sandy Lang
Figurative Painter based in Germany
ABOUT
Born 1980, I am a self-taught artist with continued self studies since 1997. Developing my work over several years until I felt ready, I started taking part in group exhibitions in Berlin, Prag, Portugal and Florida and worked towards my first single exhibition, which was 2016 in a lovely location called 'poor and literate' in Berlin. Even though I like working in nightly solitude by my own pace, I also did arty collaborations, including production design and scenery for two short films. My last physical exhibition before the lockdown last year, was a soiree of an temporary arty group with paintings, piano suites and poems on the myth of Marsyas. In 2021 I had the opportunity to take part in an online exhibition called „Her Weight in Gold“ by Visionary Art Collective. Currently I am working on a series of figurative paintings on the topic of strange encounters.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Creating is like telling yourself a tale of the world you feel. Being influenced by the fairy tales of my childhood and later by the discovery of artworks which are showing inner worlds rather than the outer reality, i think that strongly shaped my current works attempt to give some invisible feeling its outfit for the tangible visual world. Besides small series in red ink and red thread stitched on canvas, I mostly work with oil colours since I love their brightness and texture. It allows me to explore strong dark and light effects and to express the themes my paintings deal with. Being a lover of symbolism, I am working with allegories in a figurative manner of painting with a very personal approach to themes such as shadow and light, memories in time, and love – or its absence.
