Susan Feldman
Mixed-media artist based in LA, California
ABOUT
Susan Feldman is a mixed media artist, working primarily with found wood. She also uses a wide variety of other materials such as plexiglass, paint, photography, colored string, and often a mixture of other found objects. Her works include wall art, sculpture, and installations. They often act as three-dimensional landscapes, evoking the stratified, fragmentary nature of history and memory. Her art practice is often inspired by her meditation practice and visualizes the spiritual enlightenment of “rising-up.” These all-over compositions take the eye through various planes and materials, which parallel the obstacles and stages of progress through that journey. Feldman is a self-taught artist who was born and raised in Los Angeles. Before pursing her career in art, she worked in the music business as a production coordinator, graphic designer, and art director for an international design magazine. For over 30 years, she has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout California and New York, including the Contemporary Craft Art Museum in Los Angeles, the Chaffey Community Museum of Art in Ontario and the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster.
